A friendly, informal peer-to-peer network group for the Social Enterprise community in the Wigan Borough. Hosted locally and throughout the borough, we aim to bring together local Social Enterprises to build a strong and cohesive network.
Hosted bi-monthly, the format will be a 45 min opportunity to network with fellow peers in the sector, followed by a 2 course lunch to allow network relationships to develop. All attendees will pay for their own lunch.
With no pressure of sponsorship, this is a great chance to get to know fellow enterprises in our borough and forge opportunities and collaborations. It is the intention to invite local businesses from time to time to encourage business community cohesion and opportunities for wider support and networking in the borough.
Latest update from the network:
We are working to establish a Social Enterprise Network Stakeholder Group to drive forward the social enterprise movement in Wigan Borough.
We are looking to establish, build and grow social enterprises as recognised organisations that can be included in the supply chain of anchor organisations and the wider business sector. In addition, we want to create a peer support environment that comes from being part of a 'network.'
We are looking to embark upon the process of making Wigan a Social Enterprise Place. This is a programme supported by Nat West which recognises hotspots of Social Enterprise Activity. It is about reaching out and involving local councils, businesses, charities, consumers and budding social entrepreneurs - bringing them together to grow their SE communities.
The programme aims to promote, raise awareness and build the markets for social enterprise at a local and national level.
We have completed Step 1 of this process and are now registered with SEUK. We now need to progress to the next step and create a robust rationale as to what our aims are in establishing Wigan as a SE Place.
We are looking to hold our first meeting on Tuesday 7th August where we will be gathering data and ideas for an Action Plan. If you would like to get involved with this project, please get in touch with David Baxter or Kerry Whittle – contact details below.
