Description of SE/Org:

We are a Salford charity that provides homeless people with a home, work and companionship. We also run a social supermarket providing food to low income Salford people.an opportunity to progress.

Products or services sold:

Emmaus Salford is working towards self-sufficiency. The majority of our income is raised via our three Salford charity shops which sell a wide range of donated furniture, household items, electrical items, clothes, books, entertainment and bric-a-brac.

Alongside our charity shops we also run Lucie’s Pantry social supermarket and a School Uniform Hub. These two additional social enterprises are run by companions and benefit Salford residents who face financial hardship and may be at risk of homelessness themselves.

Mission Statement:
Emmaus Salford is a homelessness charity providing more than just a bed for the night to people who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion.

We provide a home for as long as someone needs it and meaningful work in our social enterprise. Living in a stable environment with the opportunity to work helps our companions, as residents are known, to regain self-esteem and the confidence to get back on their feet.

We also run "Lucie's Pantry" providing food for low income Salford People and, in partnership with the City Council, temporary overnight accommodation for persons in immediate need.

Emmaus Salford is one of 29 Emmaus communities across the UK, providing a home and meaningful work to more than 850 formerly homeless people.

Like any flourishing community, Emmaus is most successful when everyone makes a contribution. For us, that means working together in the social enterprise, to generate funds needed to support the community and the companions that call it home. The core of all of the social enterprises operated by an Emmaus community is its shops and retail businesses.

In return, companions are expected to work 40 hours per week or as much as they are able in the community's social enterprise. All companions are required to sign off all benefits with the exception of housing benefit, which is claimed to help support the community. The ultimate goal is for the community to become self-sufficient, supporting itself with the revenue it generates through its businesses.
Emmaus Salford is new and currently working towards financial self-sufficiency, so not in a position to help other SEs much at this stage.
