Description of SE/Org:

HCGC is a unique community-led project, established 20 years ago and underpinned by organic principles, promoting sustainability through best horticultural practice and a respect for the environment.

Our mission is to bring communities together through gardening.
As a not-for-profit organisation we offer home-produced plants for the local community. We are foremost a volunteer and education hub, promoting horticulture and sustainability to schools, colleges and communities.

Products or services sold:

Our garden centre, open to the public 7 days a week is the heart of our business and gets bigger and better every year. We grow as much of our stock as possible and never use or sell artificial fertilisers, chemicals or peat from peat bogs. Our seasonal stocks range from tiny alpines to tall trees, edible fruit plants to showy perennials, willowy grasses to key structural evergreens and deciduous shrubs.

In our shop you will find cards, crafts and unique gifts made by local artists.

We are a refill station for a wide range of ecological hygiene and household cleaning liquids (shampoo, washing up, toilet cleaner etc).

We have our on-site Cafe Oooh La La, which can also offer catering for events. We also offer venue hire.

We offer gardening consultations.

Social mission:
Conservation of the natural environment, Employment, training and education, Family, friends and relationships, Mental health and well-being, Supporting social enterprise / voluntary action

Mission Statement:
Volunteers are an integral part of everything we do, without whom we could not achieve all we do. Anyone can get involved, some stay for a few weeks and some for many years! We also work with people who have learning or mental health difficulties who enjoy the benefits of getting involved with plants and nature.

We also offer training on and off site, venue hire, run a thriving toddler group, design and build gardens around the city and lead challenge groups. And we hold four ever popular public events every year. It is our commitment to our community that drives us, that and our love for anything that grows, wriggles, crawls, or flies.
