Following on from Social Enterprise Day the day before, on November 18th Flourish Together CIC, Greater Manchester Social Enterprise Network (GMSEN) and MACC hosted their 4th 'Social Economy Social' networking event for local social entrepreneurs, changemakers and anyone interested in social and community business. The event took place at the newly re-launched Café Sorrel at Hulme Community Garden Centre, who also provided delicious soup, cakes and hot drinks to keep everyone going.

The event attracted 24 attendees, with a mix of social entrepreneurs from Manchester, Stockport and Trafford, an academic researcher, a local journalist, social investors and supporters from the wider Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise sector.

Janine from Café Sorrel spoke about the journey over the last few years of setting up a CIC and running a successful Crowdfund campaign to launch the new café at the garden centre. They are offering cooking workshops, skills development courses and creative events (not to mention delicious food). The past few years have been very exciting for the garden centre. Following a successful community share offer they have made several impressive improvements to the site. They have a spacious new shop, a new shared office, a community and volunteer hub, a new display atrium, new toilets and of course the brand new café run by Janine and her daughter Zia at Café Sorrel.  For those who may not have been to the garden centre recently, this event was the perfect opportunity to admire the exciting improvements to the site.

If you are looking for a beautiful event space surrounded by nature with delicious food and drink in Manchester, why not check out Café Sorrel at Hulme Community Garden Centre.

Special thanks to Nickala Torkington at Flourish Together CIC for organising and generously sponsoring the event, Tom Waring at MACC and Janine and the team at Café Sorrel for all the delicious food and drink.
